Weekly Blog: Feb.4th - Feb. 10th

Hi ladies,

Hope you had a great time at our last meeting Friday. Thank you for sharing so many 'Favorite Things'. I think I've added some many great things to my next shopping list! Ha, ha!

We also had a chance to reflect on the Aligned Parenting book with our tables. I still have a lot of discussing to do with my husband and my older child, but I have started to talk about the book with my family so we can build our family 'mission statement'.  My husband is not one for "homework", so I've had to turn the book into multiple conversations, but we are making progress. Not only with this study, but I would have to say throughout this entire year I've learned so much about myself and what I want or need in my life. Thank you to my table and everyone in this community of moms for making MOMSnext so great and for making me feel so much more confident about being a mom! It takes a village....

MOPS.Org
As Jacquie mentioned at our last meeting, we would like for everyone to post their photo in their MOPS.org profile. Everyone who registered with MOPS International has a profile online. And it would be great if everyone can add their picture, so it will be easier to find contacts within our group. Just go to mops.org, and click on Login at the top right hand corner. You will be asked for your login credentials. Once you sign in, you will be taken to your profile information. Please make sure it is filled out and correct and add your photo if you haven't done so already.  Thank you!

Silent Auction
On April 20th, we will have our final fundraiser for MOMSnext in the form of a Silent Auction. There will be more information to come, but each table will be putting together a basket around a specific theme (that will be assigned). If there are any home businesses out there, we welcome all donations of any goods or services for the Silent Auction.  Just let us know!

Compassion Project
Samantha shared with us last week about the joint effort between MOPS and Compassion to help children in third world countries. It was heartbreaking to see the depths of poverty some children live in on a daily basis. I was also surprised to learn what small amount of money it really takes   from donations to make such a huge impact to a child's life. If you are interested in participating, there are many ways you can help.

Give a one time donation. You can help our fundraising efforts and give a one time donation. Go to the VCC MOMSNext fundraising website for more information.

Sponsor a child. The most transformational way you can support a child is by providing ongoing support in the form of a tax-deductible contribution of just $38 a month. This support will provide your sponsored child with medical checkups, nutritious food, health and hygiene training, educational assistance and most important a way to hear about Jesus Christ and be encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with God. When you sponsor a child, you'll receive your child's photo, personal story and a child sponsorship packet by mail in approximately 10 days. Go to Compassion's website to learn how you can sponsor a child.

Check out the video of Mandy Arioto, MOPS President and CEO, and other MOPS moms as they traveled to Honduras to meet the precious babies and moms this cause is helping. You can watch the video on the MOPS website here.

IF Gathering
For the past 4 years, women from many churches have gathered together for IF:San Jose. IF:San Jose is a gathering that includes live worship, amazing speakers (via simulcast) and the opportunity to pray together and wrestle with questions of faith. This is an event designed for long time Christ followers as well as those who are exploring Christianity. It is a gathering where we have had three generations of women come together and it connects with each one of them. It is a gathering for women of all colors and races. It is a gathering centered around Jesus and to see the local body of Christ for each other and encouraging one another. It is a small glimpse of heaven.

This event will be held Friday, February 9th from 6pm to 10pm and Saturday, February 10th from 9am to 1pm at Calvary Church in Los Gatos. The cost is $20 and you can register at register.ifgathering.com/event/ifsan-jose.

See the flyer below for more details or if you have any questions about the event, contact Joy Yankey, Pastor of Women’s Ministries and Small Groups at Calvary Church Los Gatos, by email at jyankey@calvarylg.com or via phone at  (408) 356-5126 x239.

Mom's Night Out - Movie Night
Join us Thursday, March 1st at 7pm for a showing of Kirk Cameron's new movie called CONNECT.  It's about help for parenting kids in a social media world, so we thought it would be fun to get a group of us to watch it together for a Mom's Night Out.

There are limited show dates and times, but we wanted to get a group together to watch it at the showing on March 1st at the AMC Cupertino Square 16. (10123 N. Wolfe Road, Cupertino, CA 95014).

Check out the trailer at https://youtu.be/Hiltak3hsZc.

Mom's Night Out - Bunco Night
Mark your calendars for a night of Bunco for a Mom's Night Out on Tuesday, March 19th.
We will be playing Bunco at Lori McKinley's house. If you have never played Bunco, it is a lot of fun and easy to learn. And if you have played before, come join and help teach the rules. Please join us if you can for a night of fun games, conversation and great camaraderie.
